Rhapsody might be coming to an iPhone near you

Rhapsody iPhone App

Rhapsody could give iTunes a little competition but will Apple even give it a chance? Real Network has announced plans to port their subscription based music service to the iPhone and iPod touch. The streaming music app will allow subscribers to explore and listen to Rhapsody's entire collection of tunes over Edge, 3G and Wi-Fi. Subscribers can create and store playlist queues of their favorite content, however they will not be able to "download" any of the content to their device unlike iTunes.

With Apple becoming rejection happy as of late, some say this app might not even see the light of day. I don't see any real threat to iTunes or any major reason why Apple wouldn't approve it. The cost of the subscription service is reported to be $14.95 a month.

Streaming music is starting to become more popular with Spotify, Napster, XM, Pandora and a few more trying to grab subscribers. Pandora has my vote for the winner. Its a free "ad-supported" music service that offers many of the same features.
